How I Created a Blog, and Why!

For years I’ve heard of blogs and even read a few from time to time. Many were informative (usually about something I wasn’t passionate about), but seemed to be expressive outlets for arts and crafts enthusiasts, moms of preschoolers or toddlers, or techies. Many I found interesting and informative, but never subscribed. Until…How I Created a Blog

I found a blog about blogging. It’s called How to Start a Blog by Amy Lynn Andrews. I’m not even sure how I found her blog, but aside from literally how to get the website (find a host and domain) it made me wonder what I would say if I were to start a blog. It made me think about what readers want to read about and what I might want to write about, and if I even had anything to say at all. I followed her steps and that’s how I created a blog.

Setting the Stage

Over the last 20 years or so I have had an increasing faith and growth experience in the Catholic Church. I had a conversion experience in 1992 and it set the path for rest of my life. I was hired as a Youth Minister in 1995 and enjoyed that role for ten years as I started a family. I moved into catechetical and academic publishing for the next ten years. During this time I have been involved with many ministries but always with some aspect of teaching the faith. Catechesis is the Church word for passing on the faith. I am a catechist!

Something to Say

So after reading about blogging I realized I do have something to say! I have always been interested in how things can be better and strive to find solutions to problems. In my work I help faith formation leaders and other catechists become better at what they do. Most people want to continue learning and improving. That is why I decided to start this blog. I realize many of my friends, business acquaintances, and even family members may not have an interest in reading a blog like this, and that’s okay. If you have stumbled upon this on Facebook don’t worry, I am only posting this initial post to introduce the blog. I will not be posting my blogs on my personal FB page. However, if you have an interest in this sort of thing why not take a visit to see what it’s all about? If you have continued interest you may, of course, sign up to be notified of new posts. I appreciate sincere comments and they will shape the direction of the blog.

Lifelong Learning Challenge

One of my beliefs is that we all need to be lifelong learners. No matter what we do or where our interests lie, we have been blessed by God for our lives and the gifts we possess. Many of us have obvious talents and have probably realized by now that we still need to hone our skills. Many may feel like they possess no special skills or talents. I believe, however, that we all have something to contribute. In big or small ways, from our attitude to our altitude, we have something to offer and we can become greater with practice. By greater, I do not mean prideful, I mean a more positive influence on the world. My challenge is for each of us to find an interest and continue to pursue it – no matter your current age! Trust in God to lead you and become a better mom, dad, friend, cook, pilot, musician, listener, grandparent, or…catechist! Now it’s your turn. What do you have to say?

Please pray for me and that my blog may affect positive change in the world of catechesis!

Note: Here’s a recent post on creating a photography blog that will help photographers and all bloggers! Thanks, Sebastian!
